“The most beautiful thing in the world is, of course, the world itself.”

Our International Tax Advisory Group helps world travelers and global business owners navigate the complexities of international tax, turning challenges into opportunities across the globe. As cross-border regulations continue to evolve, individuals and businesses need experienced international tax advisors who can provide clarity, continuity, and proactive guidance. Our group provides all that and more.

Equipped with decades of experience, KLR’s International Tax practice helps clients navigate complex global tax matters with confidence. Through collaborative expertise and a team-based approach, the team delivers international tax planning, compliance, and advisory services that create meaningful impact for clients, colleagues, and communities.

The Team Behind the Impact

Rather than relying on a single advisor, clients are supported by a network of specialists who bring different backgrounds, technical strengths, and global perspectives to every engagement.

A Global Bench of Experience

Our International Tax Advisory Group supports:

  • Businesses operating or expanding internationally
  • Multinational and closely held companies
  • Executives, entrepreneurs, and globally mobile professionals
  • High-net-worth individuals and families with international income or assets

Across these engagements, clients benefit from a multi-disciplinary, multi-perspective team that aligns international tax strategy with business goals, personal objectives, and regulatory realities.

Here are the faces behind our success:

Kenneth Freshman

As practice leader, Ken brings nearly 40 years of experience with inbound and outbound tax issues for individuals and entities around the world. His recent focus includes cross-border business structuring, IRS voluntary disclosures, pre-immigration and expatriation planning, foreign gifting, and equity compensation.

“You never quite know who will walk in the door or what issues they’ll bring—that’s what makes this work so fascinating.”

Kristen Howze

Kristen, Director of our Lausanne office, brings a unique perspective to her clients: she’s navigated the complexities of international life herself. Kristen has lived and worked across Europe, including eight years in the Netherlands. She brings a client-first approach and deep expertise in cross-border individual tax and helps clients anticipate issues before they arise, turning complex rules into clear, actionable guidance. In 2025, she shared her insights at American Citizens Abroad Town Hall events in Switzerland.

Brad Lombardi

Senior Manager Brad has over 14 years of experience guiding clients through cross-border tax matters, including controlled foreign corporations, global structures, cross-border transactions, and reorganizations. He pairs technical rigor with practical judgment and, outside work, channels the same strategy and focus as a devoted Boston sports fan and golfer.

Drew D’Aiello

Now in his 17th year of practice, Senior Manager Drew specializes in FIRPTA, non-resident alien withholding, residency, and other U.S. international tax regimes. Drawing on the same steady, practical approach a teacher uses to help guide students through complex assignments, this father of three teens and one pre-teen excels at translating technical issues into clear, plain-language options, empowering clients to determine which strategy best fits their circumstances.

Catherine Findlay

Senior Tax Manager Catherine translates complex international tax rules into practical strategies. She specializes in PFICs, tax equalization, and U.S./U.K. planning, drawing on her experience living in the U.K. She also mentors colleagues and embeds cross-border expertise across the firm.

As you can see, KLR’s International Tax practice is built on:

  • Team-based client service
  • Shared technical knowledge and experience
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration

This structure ensures clients always have access to experienced international tax professionals, regardless of changing circumstances.

Together, this group creates a shared knowledge base that is far stronger than any single advisor could be.

A Collaborative, Forward-Looking International Tax Practice

International tax regulations will continue to change. KLR’s International Tax practice remains focused on anticipating what’s next and helping clients prepare for the future.

With a deep bench of experienced professionals and a collaborative service model, our team is positioned to support individuals and businesses navigating global tax complexity, today, tomorrow, and beyond.
