KLR selected six finalists. On July 30th, the artwork from the finalists was posted on KLR’s website for the employees to vote on. The winning concept has been selected and will be manufactured locally by featured artist John Harrington, a University of Rhode Island graduate, and installed in the KLR lobby on September 1st. The winner will be announced on KLR’s Facebook page on August 11th. KLR further reinforced its longstanding, steadfast commitment to the community by calling on area students and local artists to help decorate their lobby. “There is such an incredible pool of talent right here in our own backyard,” said June Landry, KLR’s Director of Marketing. “We are proud to introduce the exceptional work of this artist.” Details about the contest: KLR was in search for a unique piece of art designed by a local artist for the wall in the main lobby area of their Providence office. The contest details were promoted via social media. The winning design will be hung in the Providence office lobby with the artist's name and the artist will be awarded a $500 prize. About the artist: John Harrington, of Newport, RI, submitted his winning design titled “Steel Spectacle” a manipulated metal hanging. John’s piece will be made out of one eye catching graphic (included above) that is mounted on steel or aluminum. From there a series of cuts to both the image and the metal will be bent to create space and depth, completely moving away from the traditional photograph and frame. His technique of physical photo manipulation has gained a lot of attention at the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Rhode Island. Follow the progress and final installation of John’s artwork on Facebook.
