2016 Tax Filing Deadlines

February 23, 2016

If you haven’t filed your taxes for tax year 2015 yet, it is wise to get the process going—You do not want to be scrambling right before the deadlines!

When are taxes due this year?

Type of Return 2016 Deadline
Individual 1040 April 18, 2016* (only because Emancipation Day, a holiday celebrated in D.C., falls on the 15th this year)
A 6 month extension is available- October 15th. Most states are following this deadline but you should check your local state. Estimated tax payments can also be effected by the accepted state due date.
S corporations March 15th (6 month extension available- September 15th)
C corporations March 15th (6 month extension available- September 15th)
Partnerships April 18th (5 month extension available- September 15th)
FinCEN Report 114 (Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts) June 30th (no extension available)

Make sure you are well aware of all due dates and tax obligations—you do not want to be hit with penalties for late filings. Note that for next year, there are a number of changes regarding filing deadlines—We will keep you posted!
