Attention MA taxpayers, lawmakers have extended your filing deadline to May 17th, aligning with the federal extension announced March 17th. Following the IRS’ announcement that the federal individual tax deadline has been extended to May 17th, Massachusetts has announced their deadline will also be extended. Here are the details. MA’s legislative leaders have decided to push the state’s deadline to May 17th as well. The extension will give the IRS more time to process all tax returns. Important to note Be aware…so far the IRS and MA legislature has only extended the deadline for 2020 individual filings. The deadline remains April 15th 2021 for 1st quarter estimates. Please make sure to make your 1st quarter estimates timely to avoid underpayment penalties. The extended deadline also does not apply to trust tax filings.
