Rhode Island DOT Finalizes New Taxpayer Portal: What’s New?

December 20, 2021

Rhode Islanders…you will want to check out the revitalized taxpayer portal. Online payments made through the taxpayer portal will be effective January 4, 2022. Here are the details.

The Rhode Island Division of Taxation has finalized its updated Taxpayer portal. This marks the completion of the DOT’s website revitalization efforts, launched in November 2021.

What’s new?

The new online portal is part of the DOT’s effort to improve its online presence, and provide accessible and user-friendly services to taxpayers across the Ocean State. Through the tax portal, taxpayers can

  • Make online payments for all tax types including personal income and corporate taxes
  • Access filings (with the exception of personal income and corporate tax returns)
  • Access good standing applications
  • File and pay with convenience and ease—taxpayers can link to debit or bank account
  • Schedule advance payments
  • Check compliance
  • View prior returns

How do you create an account?

Call the Division of Taxation at 401-574-8484 to create a RI taxpayer portal account. To access the portal, go to https://taxportal.ri.gov .

Do you have to create an account to access the benefits?

If you do not have a portal account, you can still use the portal’s convenient “same-day services” options to make tax payments electronically and file and pay certain business taxes online. Though the guest payment option is helpful, it is limited. To access the full suite of the portal’s capabilities, you will need to create an account through the DOT.
