Intern Spring 2023 | Fall 2023
As a full time college student and tennis player at Roger Williams University, Matt had a lot on his plate…but when he saw the opportunity to intern at KLR, he couldn’t pass it up. As a current intern returning in Fall 2023, Matt is so grateful for the opportunity to kick start his career at KLR, voted a best place to work for 17 years…and counting.
Why did you choose KLR for you internship?
Originally, I wasn’t going to apply for an internship because, as a sophomore, I have a full load of classes and I’m on the tennis team. However, my accounting professor mentioned KLR and a tour he did with his class last year. I continued to hear so many good things about KLR, and I just couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to work here. I was super impressed with KLR’s awards and knowing that it has been voted a Best Place to Work for over 17 years.
Who is your buddy/coach? Has it been helpful to have their perspective and guidance during your internship?
My buddy is Nicole Pickering, tax associate. She never hesitates to help, she always makes sure to come over to my desk to check in, and I know she’s just a short walk or phone call away if questions come up throughout the day.
What has been the most useful part of your internship thus far?
Since I was a tax intern this time around, a lot of my time was spent prepping returns, so I’ve gotten comfortable doing it and it’s a cool skill to have. My accounting classes at school are focused and insightful, but it’s been so helpful to have that on-the-job experience these past few months. It’s really helped me grow as a student and intern.
Getting to know so many people has been awesome, too. I was so nervous my first day at KLR, but those nerves subsided quickly. Everyone is so helpful here, it has made this experience so worthwhile.
